Gel polish, an overlay or extensions: what should I book?

Three services that can look similar in a photograph, but start with different goals for your natural nails.

First ask: colour, structure or length?

A picture of beautiful nails does not always tell you what service created them. A neat glossy finish might be gel polish on natural nails, an overlay on natural nails or a full set of extensions. The useful question is what you want to change about your own nails.

If you are happy with your natural length and mainly want a colour, gel polish is the simplest starting point. If you want support while keeping your existing length, ask about an overlay. If you want to go beyond your current length, extensions are the service to explore. The final look can be understated or expressive in any of these routes; the underlying service is what differs.

Gel polish and an overlay stay close to your own nail

Our gel polish services use selected Gelish and GellyFit colour. The product is cured under an LED lamp for a glossy finish. You can book hands, feet or both, and choose more detailed cuticle preparation if that is what your nails need.

A gel nail overlay has a different purpose. It adds a natural-looking layer of structure over the existing nail while keeping a refined profile. It does not give you the added length of a full extension set. If you often ask for ‘gel nails’, it is worth clarifying whether you mean colour alone or this extra layer of support.

For example, someone with a length they already like may be drawn to an overlay because the goal is a little structure without changing the silhouette. Someone with short nails who wants a noticeably longer shape is asking a different question. A consultation helps us see the starting point before deciding which service belongs on the booking.

If you are unsure about the finish rather than the structure, our gel versus classic polish guide deals with wear, removal and the experience of each colour service.

Extensions are for a new length or shape

Our nail extension services offer gel, acrylic and PVC options. They create length beyond the natural nail and are shaped around the result you want. One gel colour is included with a full extension service; French, ombré, chrome, cat-eye and detailed art can be added separately.

Extensions also have a maintenance story. As your own nails grow, you may need an infill, repair or removal depending on the system and the condition of the existing set. That is worth thinking about before your first appointment, especially if you are visiting Hua Hin for a short stay.

When booking, tell us what is on your nails now, the length you hope for and any image that captures the shape you like. If you are between two services, contact the lounge before choosing a slot. We would rather help you book the right amount of time than have you rush the result you came for.

A useful message can be very short: ‘These are my nails now, this is the look I like, and I already have gel on two fingers.’ That gives the team more to work with than a service name alone. It also helps us discuss removal or extra design time before you arrive.
