Gel or classic polish: which finish suits you?

A straightforward way to choose the colour finish that fits your routine, your plans and the care you prefer.

Start with your everyday routine

Imagine the next couple of weeks, rather than just the next couple of hours. Do you want a colour you can change yourself whenever the mood strikes, or would you prefer to leave the salon with a glossy finish that needs less thought day to day? That question often makes the choice easier.

Gel polish is cured under an LED lamp and is a good fit when you want longer-lasting colour. Classic polish air-dries, can be changed at home and suits anyone who enjoys a fresh shade more often. Neither is automatically the better choice. Your plans, the condition of your nails and how you like to maintain them all matter.

At Kanita Nail Lounge, we work with selected Gelish and GellyFit gel colours and selected Dior and CHANEL classic shades. Both options are available for hands, feet or a coordinated appointment for both.

If you are choosing colour for a holiday, a celebration or simply a busy few weeks, picture how you want to look after the first day as well as on it. Classic polish is lovely when changing shades is part of the fun. Gel may be more convenient when you would rather keep the same finish for the rest of your plans.

Decide how much care you want with the colour

A colour appointment is focused on the finish. If you want more attention around the nail and cuticle, choose a nail care and grooming service that includes your preferred polish. It makes space for detailed preparation before the colour goes on.

If what you really want is time to relax, a spa manicure or pedicure adds exfoliation, nourishment and massage. You can choose the ritual on its own or with a colour finish. The service you book should reflect the whole experience you want, not only the shade at the end.

An overlay is another decision again. It adds a natural-looking layer of gel structure without creating the length of an extension. Our guide to gel polish, overlays and extensions explains when that distinction is useful.

Think about the next appointment too

Classic polish is straightforward to change at home. Gel requires an appropriate removal appointment; picking or peeling it is a poor way to start your next look. If you already have a product on your nails, tell us when booking, particularly if another salon applied it. That helps us allow the right time and select the right service.

Still undecided? Tell the team whether your priority is staying power, easy colour changes, detailed grooming or a longer spa pause. We can help you turn that into a booking that actually matches your day.

When you look at the menu, also check whether the listed service is just colour or includes care for the surrounding nail. That small distinction is often why two appointments with a similar final shade have different amounts of time. You can choose the experience as deliberately as the colour.
